High School students in Ms. Miller's Drawing class used the perspective of the elementary school library doorway for their project. A keen eye and a steady hand are definitely required!

Mrs. Savage's fitness lab put middle school students through a series of stations, each one measuring various aspects of their fitness, including flexibility, strength, endurance, and more. Stations included sit-ups, running in place, plank holds, push-ups, and sit-and-reach. Ms. Santora was in the class to photograph the fitness lab in action. The students decided that she should also participate in the lab, not just take the photographs, so she had to drop and give them 20 push-ups!

October 14 - 18, 2024, is School Board of Education Recognition Week, a time to show our appreciation for the seven community volunteers who dedicate their time to the education of our students. Thank you to board members Laura Geary (President), Kara Kane (Vice President), Christine Bianchi, Kirsty Northrop, Marilyn Moore, Daniel Ayers, and Matthew Miller. At the October 7 meeting, each board member received a framed photo of the YCS campus, taken by Junior Brody Pangrazio, who captured the beautiful photo early in the morning using his drone. Your leadership and dedication to YCS students and staff help us carry out our vision to prepare, challenge, and inspire all students to reach their potential.

Columbus Day - October 14, 2024 School is closed today in observance of this Federal holiday

October is Fire Prevention education month. YCS is very fortunate to have our local volunteer fire departments dedicated to sharing fire safety education with our students. Today, volunteer firefighters from York, Leicester, and Cuylerville Fire Departments visited our school. They presented fire safety tips to our students, familiarized them with how a firefighter may look if they showed up at their home in an emergency, and explained the different types of firefighting equipment. Fall is a fun time at local farms. Our first grade classes had a wonderful day at Duvall Farms in Bloomfield. Special thanks to Kim Duvall and her staff for hosting all our first graders! Everyone enjoyed the Pumpkin Palace and all the activities. Students went on a hayride, picked sunflowers and pumpkins, navigated the corn maze, enjoyed a pony ride, and petted all the animals! They also enjoyed the bounce house and exploring all the different picture locations. It was beautiful weather for our picnic lunch. Afterward, we stopped at Sharks for ice cream. Fall is a fantastic time of year!

The Lady Golden Knights Varsity Soccer team celebrated Senior Night on Tuesday, October 8 at their home game against Canisteo-Greenwood. The team, families, and spectators celebrated the soccer careers of six Seniors: Ella Conway, Kylie Conway, Lilyana Beardsley, Ella Tillotson, Lia Lombardo, and Isabel Laney. Congratulations to all and thanks for the memories. Evie Smith, a 2024 YCS graduate and communications major at SUNY Brockport, returned to the Knights' field to capture Senior night in photographs. Thank you, Evie!

Students in Ms. Miller's Studio in Art class created posters featuring inspiring quotes. The students used a variety of lettering techniques to bring focus to the words in their posters. Ms. Miller displayed the students' finished paintings in the hall and the foyer to the bus loop.

York Football Alumni Association proudly welcomed the newest members of the York Football Hall of Fame at the October 4, 2024, home game vs. Canisteo-Greenwood. Congratulations to inductees John Joslyn, Rocco Dragani, Dr. Joe Scanlon, and the 2002 York Golden Knights Football team.

Where did the Earth come from? Where in the cosmic universe does the human race fit in? Mr. Earsing's Earth Science students are exploring the universe and the theories of how it all came to be. After conducting research, each student presented their findings to the class.

Join us tomorrow, Saturday, October 4, 2024, for the York All Sports Boosters' craft and vendor show at York HS auxiliary gym from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Browse and shop a variety of crafters and vendors - all proceeds will benefit the York All Sports Boosters Club.

Today, Mrs. Ivers accompanied a group of high school students to Nazareth University in Rochester. Mrs. Hussar took another group of students to tour Alfred State College. The students toured the campuses and learned about the universities' programs and majors.

Join us in celebrating these elementary school students who were recognized at the September character assembly for demonstrating responsibility. The elementary school focuses on a character trait each month. Students who demonstrate that trait are recognized at the end of the month character assembly.
