On behalf of York Central School, we would like to take a moment to recognize someone very special to our school and community. We are honored to have as part of the YCS family, Deputy Rebecca Kane, who has been the School Resource officer here at YCS for 10 years and is devoted to the safety of the children, faculty and staff members.
Outside of YCS, Deputy Kane is the first and only female Deputy Sheriff that has passed the rigorous testing to be assigned to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team. She is a DCJS certified SWAT operator and Police Sniper Observer. She is also a member of the Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol Unit, partnered with her horse Sackett. Deputy Kane is the recipient of several letters of commendation including a lifesaving. Deputy Kane is active in her community having volunteered as a firefighter previously and is heavily engaged in coaching and refereeing youth sports. Her dedication to students and the larger community continue to be an inspiration.
For all these reasons, and so many more, On Tuesday, January 17th Deputy Kane was in Albany to receive the Sheriff Colleen O’Neill Award. Congratulations on this well deserved honor.
